Split leather bags manufacturers

When evaluating split leather, focus on the coating thickness and material (usually PU or acrylic) as this determines the bag's durability and water resistance. Ensure the leather thickness meets your requirements (typically 1.2mm to 2.0mm for handbags). Additionally, verify the hardware quality, specifically looking for electroplated zinc alloy or brass with an anti-oxidation coating to prevent tarnishing during transit or storage.

Request a cross-section sample to inspect the fiber density; high-quality split leather should have a tight fibrous structure under the synthetic coating. Ask for third-party lab reports covering tensile strength, tear resistance, and colorfastness (ISO 105-X12). For B2B orders, it is critical to confirm the edge paint quality, ensuring it is smooth and does not crack when the leather is flexed.

For the US market, products must comply with California Proposition 65 regarding lead and phthalate content. For the EU market, adherence to REACH regulations is mandatory, specifically testing for Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI), which is a common byproduct in poor tanning processes. Always ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch.

Split leather is ideal for mid-range fashion handbags, laptop bags, and corporate gifts due to its cost-effectiveness and uniform appearance. Functional requirements should include reinforced stitching at stress points (like handle attachments) and the use of high-density polyester or cotton twill linings to prevent internal tearing under weight.

The biggest risk is material substitution, where a supplier might use inferior PVC or low-grade bonded leather instead of genuine split leather. To mitigate this, use Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading services and insist on a pre-shipment inspection (PSI) by a third party like SGS or Intertek to verify the material composition before final payment.

Negotiate based on material yield and color standardization. Suppliers often offer lower MOQs (e.g., 100-300 pcs) if you choose 'stock colors' already available in the market. For custom colors, expect higher MOQs. Aim for a tiered pricing structure where a 20-30% increase in volume triggers a 5-8% unit price reduction.

Leather is highly susceptible to mold and moisture damage during sea freight. Require the supplier to use silica gel desiccant packets in every bag and ensure the master cartons are lined with a waterproof polybag. For high-end split leather, specify the use of dust bags and internal stuffing (paper or air pillows) to maintain the bag's shape during stacking in containers.

Check the HS Code (typically Chapter 42) for specific import duties in your country. Be aware of Anti-Dumping Duties that may apply to leather footwear or bags from certain regions. Always request a Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Certificate of Origin from your supplier to potentially qualify for reduced or zero tariffs.
