Ignition contact set manufacturers

The most critical component is the contact point material, which should ideally be made of high-purity tungsten to resist electrical erosion and pitting. The spring arm must be constructed from high-carbon spring steel or beryllium copper to ensure consistent tension and prevent 'points bounce' at high RPMs. Additionally, the insulation block should be made of phenolic resin or high-temperature nylon to prevent electrical leakage under extreme engine heat.

Buyers must cross-reference the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) part numbers and check the distributor type (e.g., Bosch, Delco, Lucas). Pay close attention to the mounting bracket configuration and the heel material (the part that rides on the cam), as modern fiber or reinforced plastic heels offer better wear resistance than older materials. Requesting a technical drawing or 1:1 scale photo from the supplier is essential to confirm the alignment of the contact faces.

Suppliers should ideally hold IATF 16949 certification, which is the global quality management standard for the automotive industry. For performance validation, request endurance test reports showing the contacts can withstand at least 50 million cycles without significant gap deviation. Ensure the products comply with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), particularly regarding the lead content in the base metal alloys.

Ignition contact sets are primarily used in classic car restoration, agricultural machinery, and small engine applications (like lawnmowers or generators). To ensure longevity, the contact gap must be set precisely according to the engine manual (typically 0.015 to 0.020 inches). Advise end-users to apply a small amount of high-temperature dielectric grease to the distributor cam to reduce friction on the contact heel.

The biggest risk is material substitution, where suppliers use inferior alloys that lead to rapid oxidation and engine misfires. To mitigate this, use Made-in-China.com's 'Audited Supplier' reports to verify the factory's production capabilities. Another risk is counterfeit branding; ensure the packaging does not infringe on trademarks unless you have the legal right to distribute that brand.

For ignition contacts, unit prices are highly sensitive to volume because of the stamping and assembly automation. Aim for a 15-20% discount when moving from a sample order to a 1,000+ unit bulk order. Negotiate for customized blister packaging or 'white box' options at no extra cost for orders exceeding 2,000 units to enhance your brand's retail presence.

Since these are small, high-density items, LCL (Less than Container Load) sea freight is cost-effective for bulk, while air express (DHL/FedEx) is better for high-value classic car parts. For transaction security, always use Secured Payment services on Made-in-China.com to ensure funds are only released after you confirm the goods meet the agreed-upon quality standards. Always include a pre-shipment inspection clause in your contract.
