Dysprosium metal price manufacturers

When sourcing Dysprosium (Dy) metal, the primary focus must be on purity levels, typically ranging from 99% to 99.9% (TREM - Total Rare Earth Metals). Buyers should specify the required form, such as ingots, pieces, or rods, as this affects the melting rate in applications. Additionally, pay close attention to the impurity limits of non-rare earth elements like Iron (Fe), Silicon (Si), and Carbon (C), which can significantly impact the magnetic performance of the final alloy.

Dysprosium is primarily used as an additive in NdFeB (Neodymium-Iron-Boron) permanent magnets. Its critical function is to increase coercivity, allowing magnets to operate at high temperatures (up to 200°C) without losing magnetism. This makes it indispensable for electric vehicle (EV) motors, wind turbine generators, and aerospace sensors. Without sufficient Dysprosium, high-performance motors would suffer from thermal demagnetization.

Suppliers should provide a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch. Ensure the manufacturer follows ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental standards, as rare earth processing is chemically intensive. For international trade, verify that the product meets REACH and RoHS requirements if the end product is destined for the EU market.

The price is highly sensitive to mining quotas, environmental regulations in China, and global demand for EVs. Because Dysprosium is a heavy rare earth element (HREE) with limited geographical sourcing, prices can fluctuate based on export policies and stockpiling activities. Buyers should monitor the Asian Metal Index or similar benchmarks to time their procurement effectively.

Dysprosium is subject to strict export licensing and dual-use item controls. Buyers must ensure their supplier possesses a valid Export License for Rare Earth Products. It is essential to clarify the HS Code (typically 280530) to ensure correct customs declaration and to check if any export duties apply, as these will directly impact the landed cost.

Given the high unit value, use Secured Payment services or Letters of Credit (L/C) to protect capital. We strongly recommend sourcing through verified manufacturers on Made-in-China.com, utilizing their Audit Reports to confirm the supplier's production capacity and legal existence. Avoid making full upfront payments to unverified entities.

Dysprosium is chemically active and can oxidize. It should be packaged in vacuum-sealed plastic bags inside steel drums filled with argon gas or coated in protective oil. For international shipping, ensure the cargo is insured for its full replacement value and use reputable freight forwarders experienced in handling Class 4.1 flammable solids if the metal is in powder or thin foil form.

Due to market volatility, avoid fixed-price contracts for periods exceeding three months. Instead, negotiate a formula-based pricing model linked to a recognized market index plus a processing fee. This protects both the buyer and the supplier from extreme market swings and ensures a stable supply chain for critical manufacturing needs.
