Wholesale green coffee bean manufacturers

When evaluating green coffee beans, focus on moisture content (ideally between 9% and 12%), bean size (screen size), and the absence of primary defects (such as black or sour beans). Ensure the supplier provides a SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) cupping score if you are targeting the specialty market, as scores above 80 points indicate premium quality. Additionally, verify the harvest year to ensure freshness, as old crop beans lose flavor complexity.

To ensure smooth customs clearance and meet consumer demand, prioritize suppliers with Phytosanitary Certificates and Certificates of Origin. For specific market segments, look for Organic (USDA or EU Organic), Fair Trade, or Rainforest Alliance certifications. If sourcing for the food industry, ensure the processing facility follows HACCP or ISO 22000 food safety management standards.

Buyers must choose between Washed (Wet processed), Natural (Dry processed), or Honey processed beans. Washed beans offer higher acidity and clarity, preferred for consistent commercial blends. Natural process beans provide heavier body and fruity notes but carry a higher risk of mold or fermentation defects if not handled correctly. Always request pre-shipment samples (PSS) to verify the processing consistency.

The contract should explicitly state the allowable defect percentage, screen size (e.g., Screen 18/19 for Supremo), and packaging requirements. For bulk cross-border trade, specify the use of GrainPro or Ecotact liners inside jute bags to prevent moisture ingress and mold growth during long sea voyages.

Coffee is highly sensitive to humidity. Always insist on hermetic packaging (like GrainPro) and request that containers be placed below deck to avoid 'container sweat' caused by temperature fluctuations. For high-value specialty lots, consider air freight or using desiccants inside the container to maintain stable humidity levels.

Focus on long-term volume commitments rather than one-off spot buys to secure better pricing. Ask for tiered pricing based on container loads (FCL vs. LCL). Use the Made-in-China.com Secured Trading Service to ensure that payments are only released after the third-party inspection (such as SGS or Bureau Veritas) confirms the beans match the agreed-upon grade and moisture levels.

Never transfer full payments upfront to unknown suppliers. Utilize Letter of Credit (L/C) for large volumes or Escrow services provided by reputable platforms. Ensure the Bill of Lading (B/L), Commercial Invoice, and Packing List are perfectly aligned to avoid costly delays and demurrage charges at the port of entry.

Check the Preferential Tariff Agreements between your country and the origin (e.g., Ethiopia, Brazil, or Vietnam). Some regions offer Zero-Tariff status for agricultural products. Be aware of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) if shipping to Europe, which requires proof that the coffee was not grown on deforested land after 2020.
