Steel house door manufacturers

When sourcing steel house doors, the gauge of the steel is the most critical factor; a lower gauge number indicates thicker, more durable steel (e.g., 20 to 24 gauge is standard for residential use). You must also verify the core material, such as high-density polyurethane foam for superior thermal insulation or honeycomb paper for cost-effective interior applications. Additionally, ensure the door features weather-stripping and a thermal break to prevent heat transfer and condensation.

For the North American market, look for UL 10C or NFPA 252 fire-rated certifications and ASTM E283/E331 for air and water infiltration. For the European market, CE marking and compliance with EN 14351-1 are mandatory. If the doors are intended for security purposes, check for RC2 or RC3 resistance classes under EN 1627 to ensure they meet anti-theft requirements.

To prevent rust and corrosion, especially in coastal areas, prioritize doors with a galvanized steel substrate. The exterior finish should ideally be a powder coating or a heat-transfer wood grain film that has passed a salt spray test (minimum 500-1000 hours). Ask the supplier for the micron thickness of the coating to ensure it can withstand UV exposure without fading or peeling.

Professional suppliers on Made-in-China.com usually offer customization for dimensions (standard vs. bespoke sizes), opening directions (inward/outward, left/right), and hardware integration (such as smart locks, heavy-duty hinges, and multi-point locking systems). You can also request specific glass inserts, which must be tempered or double-glazed safety glass to meet building codes.

Steel doors are heavy and prone to edge denting. Insist on reinforced packaging, including EPE foam protectors on all corners, plastic film wrapping to prevent scratches, and palletized shipping for LCL (Less than Container Load) orders. For FCL (Full Container Load), ensure the supplier uses airbags or wooden bracing to prevent movement during transit.

Focus your negotiation on the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Request a breakdown of the raw material costs (steel market rates) and negotiate spare parts (locks, handles, hinges) to be included at a 2-3% ratio for maintenance. On Made-in-China.com, you can leverage the Audit Reports of Diamond Members to verify their production capacity before discussing volume discounts.

Always utilize Secured Trading services and implement a staged payment plan (e.g., 30% deposit, 70% after inspection but before shipment). Hire a third-party inspection agency to perform a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) to check for verticality, lock alignment, and finish consistency. Never release the final payment until you receive the Bill of Lading (B/L) and the inspection report is approved.

Be aware of Anti-Dumping Duties (ADD) or Countervailing Duties (CVD) that some countries impose on steel products from specific regions. Check your local HS Code (typically 7308.30) to determine the exact tariff rate. Ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Origin (CO), which may help you qualify for preferential tariff rates under specific Free Trade Agreements.
