Greige cotton fabric manufacturers

When purchasing greige (gray) cotton fabric, you must focus on the yarn count (e.g., 21s, 32s, 40s) and thread density (TPI), as these determine the final fabric weight and strength. Ensure the GSM (Grams per Square Meter) aligns with your end-use, whether it is for lightweight apparel or heavy-duty industrial canvas. Additionally, verify the weaving method (plain, twill, or satin) and check for low linting and minimal weaving defects like oil stains or broken picks, which can affect subsequent dyeing and finishing processes.

Prioritize suppliers who hold OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification to ensure the raw cotton is free from harmful substances. For organic requirements, look for GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) or OCS (Organic Content Standard). It is also essential to request third-party lab reports (SGS or ITS) that verify the shrinkage rate (typically within 3-5%) and tensile strength, ensuring the fabric can withstand industrial processing.

Greige cotton is a versatile semi-finished product used extensively in textile dyeing and printing houses for apparel production. It is also widely used in home textiles (bedsheets, curtains), industrial applications (filters, base fabrics for coating), and the packaging industry (eco-friendly tote bags). Understanding the final application is crucial for selecting the right width (ranging from 63 to 126 inches) to minimize cutting waste.

Calculate the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by factoring in the raw material price, which fluctuates with global cotton futures. To optimize costs, negotiate volume-based discounts (typically 5-10% for orders exceeding 50,000 meters). Be aware that narrow-width fabrics are generally cheaper but may increase labor costs during garment conversion. Always compare FOB prices from major textile hubs like China to ensure market competitiveness.

The biggest risk is quality inconsistency between the sample and the bulk shipment, particularly regarding 'dead cotton' or high impurity content. To mitigate this, use Trade Assurance services on Made-in-China.com and hire a third-party inspector to perform a '4-point system' inspection before the balance payment is made. Another risk is moisture damage during sea transit, so ensure the supplier uses PE inner bags and moisture-proof woven outer packaging.

Focus on lead time stability and capacity guarantees, especially during peak seasons. Negotiate for a flexible payment structure (e.g., 30% deposit, 70% against B/L) to protect your cash flow. If you are a long-term buyer, ask for price-lock agreements to hedge against the volatility of raw cotton prices. Always clarify the allowable defect rate (usually 2-3%) and the compensation policy for sub-standard rolls.

Check for Anti-Dumping Duties (ADD) or specific Rules of Origin that may apply to cotton products in your country (e.g., UFLPA in the US). Ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Origin to benefit from preferential tariffs under trade agreements like RCEP. For shipping, FCL (Full Container Load) is highly recommended for greige fabric to prevent contamination from other goods in an LCL (Less than Container Load) environment.
